 Background:
District administration has brought forward a request to create a Counselor on Special Assignment position to develop a Comprehensive 7th-12th Counseling program that will support students in improving their College and Career Readiness Indicator. Currently each counselor determines which counseling services they will provide for students without a baseline level or services that all students are guaranteed site to site. In addition, one of the high school head counselors retired last year and Matilda Torres High School opened this academic year. This is the first time that we have 3 head counselors at MUSD with two of them in their first year in this position. Creating district guidance on counseling expectations and a platform to allow sites to collaborate would help sites develop their site counseling programs based on the needs of their students while ensuring equitable services regardless of the school they attend.
 Rationale:
The Counselor on Special Assignment will work with the sites to generate standard operating procedures to ensure each site is providing a baseline level of services for all students regardless of the school they attend. Furthermore, the role of the Counselor on Special Assignment is to work with the sites in creating standard operating procedures, providing training, and monitoring implementation of counseling services that improve students' opportunities to meet the College and Career Readiness Indicator.
 Fiscal Impact:

Counselor and Head Counselors Salary Schedule

From Step 1 - $73,402/annually

To Step 6 - $90,578/annually
