| | | | | | | | Whole Kids Foundation is dedicated to helping kids eat better and enjoy life. They are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) founded by Whole Foods Market and guided by the same values, principles, expertise and standards for quality ingredients, food production methods and nutrition. Eastin-Arcola is seeking approval of their application for this grant. They applied for the grant prior to the deadline of March 31, 2021, and will be notified by August 2, 2021, if they are selected and awarded the grant. |
The more kids know and feel connected to food, the more curious they become about how things grow or taste, and the more willing they are to try new foods. This is why edible gardens are learning spaces. The Garden program provides $3,000 monetary grant to support a new or existing edible educational garden located at K-12 schools.
The goal for the next 1-3 years is to allow each grade level to take ownership of a raised garden bed or section of the greenhouse, which would include research of a fruit, vegetable, edible flower, succulent, or herb that will grow well in our zone during particular season, soil preparation, planting, tending, harvesting, and sharing or selling what was grown at a farmers market. |
